Overview

Our four-year BSc (Hons) in Health and Social Science with Foundation Year focuses on innovative and cross-disciplinary research, giving students a comprehensive understanding of society’s complexities and the roles of health, communities, and workplaces within it.

The curriculum covers contemporary ideas, theories of society, history, and culture, reflecting RCL’s values.

The foundation year provides a solid grounding for further study in health and social sciences, equipping students with essential academic skills and knowledge. Through foundational courses and contemporary issue exploration, students develop critical thinking, communication, and research skills crucial for higher education.

Building on the foundation year, students explore health and wellbeing issues from sociological, geographical, and anthropological perspectives over the next three years. Topics include mental health, ageing, equality, diversity and rights, gender and sexuality, and global health, focusing on the intersection of research, policy, and practice.

The program includes two 10-credit micro-modules at levels four and five, focusing on transferable skills and knowledge essential for success in the health and social science sector. Covering areas such as career and employability, personal development, global citizenship, sustainability, digital literacy, and health and wellbeing, these modules provide students with in-demand skills and knowledge.

Embedded throughout this degree is Thinking into Character (TiC), RCL’s exclusive transformational program. Designed to support personal development and help individuals set and achieve their personal, educational, and career goals, TiC empowers students to become confident and ethical leaders.
